This exhibition, whose curator is Vittorio Sgarbi, offers you a complete and enjoyable view on the Bolognese painting and on the artists that were active in our town from the 14th to the 20th Century.
The exhibition consists of 180 works, that are hosted in the charming Palazzo Fava, where the frescos by Annibale, Ludo
vico and Agostino Carracci integrate and complete the overview on Bolognese art.
The Carraccis were the founders of the Accademia degli Incamminati, a movement that has had a great relevance in Bologna and that, from the late 16th Century, sought to distance painting from the Late Mannerism and to bring it towards a more natural way of expression.
The artists in the exhibition are several, just to quote some of them, let me mention Cimabue, Giotto, Niccolò dell’Arca, Raffaello, Amico Aspertini, Parmigianino, Ercole de’Roberti, Guido Reni, Donato Creti and Giorgio Morandi.
To me the Saint Cecilia by Raffaello is a really charming painting, and its story is very interesting and strictly related to Bologna. Come and see it with me!
The excursus covers seven Centuries of art history and painting, with works from the local Museums and from private collections.
This exhibition is dedicated to the critic and art researcher Roberto Longhi, but it also wants to be a tribute to Cesare Malvasia, author of Felsina Pittrice. This book, published in 1678 is still today a milestone in the study of Bolognese art history from the Middle Ages to the Baroque.
The images belong to the Pinacoteca Nazionale di Bologna.
