The Fondazione Magnani Rocca is a charming place where visitors are welcomed by masterpieces of various styles and times, in a warm and fascinating atmosphere.

Here beauty takes over, the atmosphere is suspended and Professor Luigi Magnani lives in the masterpieces he carefully chose and bought. The permanent collection is very rich, and all the pieces are extremely interesting and in their own way unique.

However today I want to invite you to visit the temporary exhibition that, till December 8th, enhances and completes the permanent one.

It is titled Manzù/Marino, gli ultimi moderni, (Manzù/Marino, the last modern ones) and it proposes some of the masterpieces of the two most famous Italian sculptors of the fifties and sixties. Both artists drew the collectors’ and museums’ attention of the entire world, as they re-interpreted classical sculpture in a totally innovative way. By their works they have been able to make the sense of alienation and disintegration caused by the Second World War tangible.

The Cardinals and the Carriage by Manzù, as well as the portraits, integrate the beautiful San Giorgio of the permanent collection.

Instead Marini with his horses and his riders is looking for the balance and union between human beings and nature. Apparently he had the idea as he saw the statue portraying Henry II in Bamberg’s Cathedral. His figures are tight and nervous, caught in unique and responsive poses.

Apart from the already very interesting proposals, here now and then they also open the house’s closets, where there still today are some really beautiful objects that belonged to Professor Magnani and his parents, Giuseppe and Eugenia. Outfits, gloves, tablecloths, cups, books, hats, photos, necklaces peep from behind the doors of this really unique villa!

Opening times:
