Come with me to spend a different night, among art, masterpieces, paintings and baroque architecture! I propose you a journey through the history of Parma that we will go over thanks to the works of the National Gallery and to the stupendous Farnese Theatre.
In occasion of Expo 2015, until October 31st, the National Gallery and the Farnese Theatre will observe an extended opening time, in fact on Saturdays they will be open until 10.00 pm. The Gallery and the Theatre are inside the Pilotta Palace, a farnesian building that is really impressive because of its dimensions and style, and that arouses in the visitors contradictory emotions and impressions.
In Teatro Farnese we perceive all the power and pomp of this family from Lazio which left traces of itself in various cities of our Country, impressing everybody with structures often as grandiose as externally austere. In the National Gallery we can also admire different works, such as the magnificent statue of Maria Luigia, the beloved Duchess of Parma, by Antonio Canova, next to her there are the portraits of her predecessors, the Bourbons and in the center of the room stands the magnificent centerpiece by Damià Campeny, refined Catalan sculptor of the 19th Century.
We will continue with a walk through Romanesque capitals, Tuscan and Venetian works, to get to one of the masterpieces guarded in our Gallery: “La Scapigliata” by Leonardo, a charming design representing the head of a young lady.
The guided tour will end in the so called “Rocchetta”, the part of the Gallery where the masterpieces by Correggio and Parmigianino, the most important painters from Parma, are exposed.
The cost of the guided tour is 5,00 euro per person. The price does not include the entrance ticket.
